I paid $5.19 CAD for it, and despite the low price, caution even those who like walking sims to stay away. I was able to hit a game breaking bug within twenty two minutes and the walking speed and fishbowl effect made it feel like a very long twenty two minutes. Game Engine: Unity Graphics API: OpenGL Disk Space Used: 427 MB GPU Usage: 26-58 % VRAM Usage: 759-879 MB CPU Usage: 11-26 % RAM Usage: 2.8-2.9 GB Frame Rate: 59-144 FPS The small bit of praise I had for the story and voice acting isn’t enough to recommend CABOUS. They were decent but not great across the board. That being said the graphics weren’t anything that should have used a lot of resources anyway. Performance was good with the game maintaining a frame rate above 60 FPS for all but a second or two. You can’t save the game at all which is a big deal because even if the issue with memory got fixed I would have to walk the agonizingly slow pace back to where I was from the beginning. I did see several flickering textures throughout my play time. I created a post on the Itch.io store page hoping to see if the developer could offer help but after eight days there has been no response. I got to a specific memory and where there was usually a button prompt to unlock the memory there was none here. Couple all of this with the fact that when I got to one memory I was unable to unlock it and I had to quit. It just looked weird and there was no option to turn it off. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get inside to show you more. From the outside, you’ll notice it’s an old railroad caboose that’s now being used as a tiny cabin. The game is also in, what I can best describe as, a fishbowl lens effect. This is a caboose cabin in upstate New York. You can run but the stamina bar empties so fast that you can only do so for a couple seconds. You walk way too slowly which is just a huge issue with nothing else to do in the game except walk. I liked the story itself and the voice acting but the game had too many issues. Along the way you hear narration about events in the main character’s past and each memory adds to the back story. The game is a walking simulator where you walk around unlocking memories, each one allowing you to proceed to the next. The game is a walking simulator CABOUS has an interesting concept but manages to make some missteps that sap any enjoyment I had out of it. DESCRIPTION The Internet Archive Software Collection is the largest vintage and historical software library in the world, providing instant access to millions of programs, CD-ROM images, documentation and multimedia. If I’m going to pay the extra money for the privilege, I’d also like the freedom to be able to show off my wit and creativity by giving my colors a unique name! (oh that means you too, automation!) I doubt this will be implemented unless other players voice similar opinions - they should create a poll, see what others think! I don’t think I’m the only one who would enjoy naming colors (at least I hope I’m not ). Especially on the basis that you can copyright a custom color in the game that only your company can use. I still think that decision should be rethought. On the topic of custom colors - they considered giving players the ability to name colors, but decided against it feeling that few, if any, would use it. If I’m honest that’s one of the reasons why I continue to play - not just because it’s fun to see how well I’ve been doing (more on that later), but also I look forward to the day when I have enough cash to be able to build supercars that will actually sell! Secondly, by locking up some of the available options early on in the game, it encourages players to keep playing rather than building something wild, become bored, and then leave. By intervention, I mean periodic updates such as facelifts or revised engines to keep things “fresh” - just as real manufacturers do. That was a pleasant surprise to say the least! To paraphrase *some *of what was said, the sales model is designed to give a small sales bonus to brand new cars and steadily declining sales (without intervention) thereafter. OK, so it’s been a week and there are a few things I’d like to report.įirstly, many of the concerns I had were addressed in an e-mail directly from the developer not long after I made the last post. Your kinda flying blind in that respect, unless you check the leaderboard and try to model your car after the best-selling model for a particular period. It’s impossible to tell what will sell, what won’t, and why. The sales model I think is the real issue. I didn’t really have a problem with the menus, but I can attest to your frustration. I got as low as -£200,000, then clawed my way up to a £30,000 profit… then promptly threw away that profit to build another model which will hopefully sell enough to put me back into the black. Good concept though, just badly executed in my opinion. Personally I did terribly with my first car so bad that I am now over £600,000 in the hole, so I pretty much gave up with it. I found it really confusing to navigate the menus, and the way it displays messages is annoying, because it does it by creating a pop-up dialog in Chrome. That’s a good point! When I said “a cool concept”, I meant more in terms of it being an internet-based game, rather than an installable game. ** = You can only set a price within a certain percentage greater than the total cost. * = It’s turn-based where every 12 hours real-time, is one month in game. the elimination of price restrictions**.more available options in the earlier stages of the game. Finally, you choose where you want your factory, your colors (no names ), set your price** and you’re all set. As stated before, the options are very limited when you’re just starting out. Building a platform and then a model follow the same procedure with various aspects of both to choose from. Fuel type, number of valves, and redline are just a few of the options to choose from. You build an engine by selecting various options from dropdown lists. The process of building a car is pretty straightforward. I love the idea of **saving **colors, but since I can’t actually *name *the color, it’s not perfect. One neat feature is the ability to save colors for your car (you are limited to 3 per model) with the possibility of “copyrighting” a certain color so that no one else can use that specific combination. Still, it’s a fun game and I find myself logging in after every turn* to see how well (or badly) I’ve done. That, and the relative lack of choice in building what you want at the early stages of the game are probably my biggest gripes. No matter what car I’ve sold, sales start out with a bang, then decline precipitously (eventually reaching zero) in less than a year. The basic concept is cool, but the sales model is a little weird. |
